The Village of Cheshire - named in loving memory of Jocelyn Cheshire Sikes Ragan.

Location:  

Black Mountain, North Carolina - 15 miles east of Asheville in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains at 2,489 feet above sea level. 2 minutes from I-40 on Highway 9 towards Lake Lure and Chimney Rock.

Developer:

Founder, Caldwell Sikes Ragan, began Cheshire on the grounds of his family's former Western Carolina Tennis Camp.

Purpose:

To create a place of enduring value where life should focus around family, friends, nature and authenticity.

Community:

Classically inspired and health-oriented, this vibrant community integrates homes within walking distance of a traditional town center of shops, cafes, offices, parks, walking trails, public "green" areas, recreation and more.

Size:

Approximately 58 acres on both sides of Highway 9.

Prices:

Custom and builder speculative treehouses and single family homes range from the $400,000's to over $1 million. Town homes range from the $400,000's to the $600,000's. Home sites range from the $130,000's to the $220,000's.

Builders:

Cheshire has a few Preferred Builders who have completed at least one home in Cheshire, understand and acknowledge Cheshire's Design Code and embrace the community's philosophy and quality standards. Other builders are available for custom projects.

Architecture:

Drawing on the architectural vernacular found throughout Western North Carolina, Cheshire developed an Architectural Code and Design Review Process. The Code and Design Review ensure that all residents and builders construct homes so that Cheshire's high-quality character may be achieved and remain harmonious with its surroundings.

Green Space:

Of the 58 acres, the developer has dedicated approximately 56% of the development for either open spaces, park areas or trails. Also, five foot wide sidewalks and eight foot planting strips with maple trees line the streets of the community.

Mixed-use:

In addition to parks and green spaces, the neighborhood will include a commercial village center and main street of shops, retail space and office spaces with apartments above. Sites have been reserved for our Resort to include a Lodge, an Inn, a Chapel, Cabins and a Conference Center.

Fitness &

   Tennis:

The Cheshire Fitness and Racquet Club is open to membership with its two facilities featuring six outdoor clay courts, two indoor courts, a Pro Shop with viewing deck, a five-lane indoor swimming pool, weight and cardio area, land and water aerobics classes and men and women's locker rooms with dry saunas.

Master

   Association:

The Cheshire Master Association, the neighborhood property owner's association, is responsible for the maintenance and care of the neighborhood's common areas, parks and green spaces. Currently, annual dues start at $650.

Taxes:

Property tax in Black Mountain is approximately .35 and Buncombe County is .68 per $100 of assessed value.

School:

Students attend Buncombe County Schools, Owen District. With 800 students, Owen High School has the lowest student/teacher ratio in the county public schools. Private schools include Asheville Christian Academy, The Learning Community, Carolina Day School, Asheville Catholic School and The Asheville School.

Hospitals:

Mission Saint Joseph's Hospital in Asheville is approximately 20 minutes from The Village of Cheshire and the VA Hospital is nearly the same distance. Sisters of Mercy Urgent Care is approximately five minutes from Cheshire in Swannanoa, NC.
